Academic qualifications (Tertiary education)

1988-92: Obtains the degree BA (Fine Arts) with a distinction in Painting at the Potchefstroom University.
2002: Obtains a Masters Degree in Visual Arts from the University of Pretoria.

Professional experience

(Lecturing experience includes teaching first to fourth year students, compiling study guides and curricula.)

1993 - 1995: Lecturer in Graphic Design at the Potchefstroom University.
1995 - 1996: Lecturer in Drawing, Painting and Graphic Design at the Vaal Triangle Technikon.
1997 -1998: Professional artist.
1998: Part time lecturer in Graphic Design and Illustration, Potchefstroom University.
1999: Part time lecturer in Illustration, Drawing and Graphic Design at the Potchefstroom University.

Co-ordinator of the Creativity Centre for the School of Arts, Potchefstroom University, as well as lecturer for three of the five courses offered by the Creativity Centre. Courses taught: Watercolour, Oil Painting and Drawing.

1999: Paper delivered entitled "Re -writing of contemporary art within the post -structuralist idiom" at the South African Art Historian’s conference in Pietermaritzburg.
2000-2002: Part-time lecturer in Illustration at the Open Window Art Academy.
2001-2002: Involved in the organisation and day-to-day running of a small creative company called Red Earth, which specialises in Mosaics and Murals.
2002: Currently involved in the Metro Mall Project in Newtown, Johannesburg, as one of 20 artists doing large-scale mosaics.
2003: Part-time lecturer at the Stellenbosch Academy for Design and Photography in Illustration.
2003: Commissioned by Stef Bos (Dutch Singer and Poet) to do 13 illustrations for his first anthology of poems called Gebroke Sinne.
2004: Lecturer at the Stellenbosch Academy for Design and Photography in Illustration.
2005: Initiated a business called Meerkuns teaching different levels of creativity to students.
2006: Lecturer in Illustration and Drawing at the Academy for Design and Photography, Stellenbosch.

2005: Interpreting the theme Green for the TV program Pasella as part of a group of artists.
2005: Oil colour portrait commissioned by A. Pienaar.

2015: Two Children’s Portraits commissioned by S. Hansche, Virginia.
2017: Developing custom made and individual Art products for specific clients. Product ranges from Cushions to table Runners, to prints made for Room Dividers.

1992: Placard designed for the Final Year Arts Student Exhibition.
1993: Placard designed for the Salon Exhibition held at the Potchefstroom Museum.

1994: 13 Full colour illustrations for a faculty brochure commissioned by the Potchefstroom University.
1998: Design of a full colour brochure for the Parys Tourism Forum.
1999: Illustrations for a booklet on State funded housing comprising 90 illustrations.
2000: Placard designed for a poetry reading of Roy Blumenthal and Henning Pieterse in Pretoria.

Special Projects:

1998: Working as an artist at the Citeè de Internationale de Paris in November and December.
2001: Working as an artist at the Cite de Internationale de Paris in August and September.
2003: Commissioned by the singer/songwriter Stef Bos to interpret his poetry for his first Anthology of poems. The book Gebroke Sinne was launched in July 2004 in South Africa and published by Suikerbos Publishers. The book was launched in September 2004 in Belgium and the Netherlands by Lannoo.
2012 – 2017: Developing a range of Art products based on original art by Marriana Booyens as well as the Development of an Online Shop called Marriana Booyens Kunshuis.
2018: Online shop up and running.
2019: Painting individual paintings for 4 blinds for a client.
2020: Starting a new video range about art and art techniques. Released on You Tube and on marrianabooyenskunshuis.co.za.
2020 – 2022: Starting Online Art Classes alongside In Studio Art classes.
2022: Mosiac Workshop in March 2022.
