Bid for a Cause - An auction in aid of the Jacaranda Children's Home

Posted on 18 September 2015

Bid for a Cause is an auction collaboration between Samantha Eaton, finalist of the 2015 SA Bachelorette competition and the Longstreet Art Lovers 1932 Gallery in Pretoria to raise funds for the Jacaranda Children's Home. Conceived by Eaton, a visual arts and design educator at Pretoria High School for Girls, the auction aims to raise funds and awareness for the Pretoria children's home. The auction opened on Thursday 17 September 2015 at 18:30 and bidding will continue until 28 September 2015 at 15:00.

Coming from a visual arts background, Eaton collected over 30 artworks donated by various established and emerging South African artists. Some of the auctioned works include Fiesta, an etching by Diane Victor created for this year's Klein Karoo Kunstefees (KKNK); interactive yet delicate works by Caitlin Greenberg; and craftfully painted work by Leanne Olivier entitled, Leeghoofd.

The SA Bachelor & Bachelorette competition, founded in 2011 by Jacques Momberg, CEO of CopperStone Promotions, is open to South Africa's most eligible bachelor and bachelorettes over the age of 20 and aims to raise funds for various charities. This year will continue the competition's focus on children's charities. Eaton is one of eight finalists who will compete for the coveted title on Saturday 7 November 2015 at Silverstar Casino, Krugersdorp.

The Bid for a Cause auction will donate a portion of the collected fund to the Jacaranda Children's Home, which looks after the welfare of abused children. Their primary purpose is to provide these children with clothing, housing, schooling, food, security and stability.

The bidding for the auction runs over six days until 28 September 2015 at 15:00. Art lovers and enthusiasts are invited to bid on the Longstreet Art Lovers 1932 Facebook Page. Eaton plans to continue her fundraising efforts with a upcoming planned event at Barnyard. Vote for Eaton by smsing 'Samantha Eaton' to 35959 (R3 per sms), or contact her on samantha.eaton22@yahoo.com if anyone is interested in getting involved in any kind of sponsorship, prizes, etc.
