'Looking at the same scenery over years means deriving new meaning or seeing it in a different light as one changes oneself. Frequently you cannot put into words what you see, experience or feel when looking at something.’

Born in Pretoria in 1939 Michel le Sueur has had a lifelong passion for photography.

Michel has a background in design encompassing 30 years of corporate graphics and branding, under the banner of his own design consultancy.

Early career included The Metal Box Co. as a package designer as well as design and art direction with Clive Lewis & Associates (MAD) Johannesburg and FCB Global Health Care / Brussels.

Working solely in black and white for many years, his work as an art director and graphic designer informed his photographic style, leading him to experiment with form, structure and texture; always conscious of the negative and positive spaces in an ever-changing landscape.

Three exhibitions at the Market Theatre Photo Gallery and publication in ‘The Flying Springbok’ and ‘Keeping Track’ highlighted the irresistible attraction of colour, adding to the abstract graphic quality of his work.

Capturing the subtle nuances of light in the natural environment, whether it be the vastness of the skies and mountains, the bubbles in a mountain stream or reflections on a calm sea; the macrocosm and microcosm of the world around us reveal themselves in these selected images.
