The debut solo exhibition by Blessing Blaai
Following his presentation at EXPO CHICAGO 2026, this exhibition marks a significant moment in Blaai’s practice, bringing together a new body of work developed over the course of his residency with the gallery. Surrogate Emotions considers the construction and mediation of feeling—how memory, environment, and representation converge to produce emotional surrogates that stand in for lived experience.
Working across painting and mixed media, Blaai continues his exploration of figuration as a site of psychological and social inquiry, where interior states are rendered through fragmented, layered compositions. The exhibition signals both a culmination and a departure: a consolidation of his evolving visual language, and a sharpening of the conceptual concerns that underpin it.
