 BLESSED BY THE BEES Opening: 8 August 2026 at 11:00 - 8 August 2026 Participating: Zakes Mda Zakes Mda is an acclaimed South African writer, composer, playwright, and visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice brings together storytelling, music, and painting. Drawing inspiration from Johannesburg, the Eastern Cape, Lesotho, and the Appalachian region of the United States, his work explores memory, identity, community, and the complexities of everyday life. Working across acrylic, oil, collage, printmaking, and found objects, Mda creates richly layered narratives influenced by Basotho mural traditions, Cubism, literature, music, and performance. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in collections across South Africa, Europe, and the United States. A celebrated author of more than 30 books and recipient of the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver, Mda continues to build connections between visual art, literature, and lived experience.
