Kroonstad, South Africa, September 15th, 1955 (née Barbara Carla Hartman)
HIGH SCHOOL:
Matriculated in 1973 at the Pretoria High School for Art, Music and Ballet, with a distinction in French and first class in all other subjects.
UNIVERSITY STUDIES:
1974 -5 Architecture at the University of Pretoria
1976 -8 Fine Arts at the University of Cape Town, majoring in sculpture and drawing.
OTHER TRAINING:
1981 –3:
Self training in photography in Paris, France
1984 –7:
Private tutoring in photography as a medium in Fine Art under guidance of Curt Fors, working part time as Fors’ assistant in the graphic and photographic studios of the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris
PROFESSIONAL STATUS:
1993 -7 Licentiate Member of the (institute of) Professional Photographers of South Africa
1999 - 2005 Guest lecturer in Photography for students of Visual Art and Information Design at the University of Pretoria
CURRENT WORK:
Preparing for a retrospective exhibition, to be held at Fried Contemporary, Pretoria, on 17th March 2007
Digital regeneration of imagery related to the work of various artists, for CD Rom use, exhibition purposes and publication.
Various photographic commissions, mostly related to art catalogues and architecture publications
SOLO EXHIBITIONS
Momentarily – Endless, Fried Contemporary Art Gallery, Pretoria, March 2007
1. September 1996 - ”SITES AND STRUCTURES”, an exhibition of photographs and oil paintings to inaugurate the opening of architect Ora Joubert’s Ivy Villa Studio as an exhibition venue in Pretoria.
The exhibition dealt with landscape in South Africa, as possible sites for buildings (photography) and with details of abandoned buildings in SA and Mozambique (oil on canvass)
2. June 2000 – “VIP”, an installation of portraits at the
Old Arts Gallery, University of Pretoria. The installation contained photographs, slides, video projections, oil paintings, drawings and mixed media.

1986 - Black and white photographs for the Lund’s Konsthalle (Sweden) retrospective exhibition of artist Curt Fors.
1990 - Colour photographs in WORLD ARCHITECTURE (London) in support of articles on Afro centricity and the term ‘Afropean’, in which the Crafford residence was discussed as a type.
1993 - Numerous photographs in various local and international publications, dealing mostly with fine art, architecture and interiors.
