Discussion: The Power of Prints with The Printing Girls (TPG)

12 December 2020 from 11:00 - 12:30

Venue: Artvark Gallery, 48 Main Rd, Kalk Bay, Cape Town

A discussion on the power of prints within a South African context. This event will feature conversations with The Printing Girls (TPG). The Printing Girls is an all-female collective of South African-based artists who work in the print medium. Here's the background story of our #PRINTLIKEAGIRL gang.
The Printing Girls (TPG) main focus is to promote the country's women printmakers to share ideas, network and exhibit together.
Neeske Alexander & Kristen McClarty will be in conversation discussing their printmaking processes and why they are drawn to this evocative medium. Neeske  & Kristen will also be doing a PRINT DEMONSTRATION with some of their linoleum blocks, enabling the audience to get a better sense of the print processes.
Later on Saturday from 15:00, Lucy Stuart-Clark will be discussing her monotype Adam & Eve sketches which were incorporated into a large collage and also became a series of ceramic sculptures with printed text included on the base. Lucy will then unpack her beetle etching and pinned/cut collages using test prints. Pinned collages are a combination of single beetles, groups of beetles and a group of escaping beetles. All collages include text phrases with a revolutionary air taken from an American diplomat's view on 1960s Russia! Lastly she will go through an edition of etched portraits where she played with collage on each print.
