Creative Journaling Workshop with Thelma van Rensburg

27 November 2021 from 09:00 - 15:00

Venue: Lizamore & Associates, 3 Hetty Avenue, Fairland, Johannesburg

Connect with yourself and practice self care with creative journaling and stand a chance to win a print.

Our deepest wounds are carried by the child within. The inner child represents the first original self that entered into this world; s/he contains the capacity to experience wonder, joy, innocence, sensitivity, and playfulness. When the inner child gets stuck in trauma at some stage of life, the adult can experience ailments such as mental illness, physical ailments and relationship dysfunction and a disconnection to your innate joy and creativity.

Through creative journaling the artist will access your inner child with creative activities such as cutting, tearing, sticking, splattering paint, collage and journal prompts.

This workshop is for everyone. No previous art or journalling experience is required. The artist will lead you through an easy step by step process of art making by utilizing you're present life experiences and art skills. She will encourage you to explore you're unique creative voice with the skills that you already have in a play-full, fun, expressive way that discourages judgment and criticism. Authenticity and personal freedom is valued above all else.

What will be covered in the workshop?

Thelma van Rensburg will prompt participants with collage pieces, magazine cut-outs, etc and will be given the freedom to create in their own sketchbook which will be provided. Participants will be tasked with writing short descriptions on what was produced and Thelma will provide guidance on how to combine art and collage techniques to create their own unique journal. Inspiration and prompts will be given to assist the above. The experience will increase introspective and retrospective insight into their own life experiences which will be translated onto the pages of the sketchbook.
