About The Artist

Artist Biography
Ronel Kellerman was born in 1974 and grew up in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. She studied at the University of Pretoria and graduated in 1996 with a BA degree in Fine Arts. She went on doing mural painting and commercial commissions. In 1999 she started working at Dionysus Sculpture Works Gauteng, specializing in colour manipulation on metals, specifically bronzes. In 2005 she took up painting full-time and exhibited for the first time at the end of 2005.
Ronel explores different social realities by portraying aspects or fragments of everyday life. She paints people or places that are of interest to her. Her work revolves around moments in time with the emphasis on mood rather than the conceptual. It is often a snapshot of a quiet, ordinary moment in a familiar and recognizable milieu. She creates ambiance through the subtle use of light on a figure, intense colour or the delicate use of pattern on draped fabric. It is the small jewels found in the ordinary she seeks to capture.
