My name is Mila Posthumus. I am a painter and live with my family on our farm in Stellenbosch. I work in oil, on canvas, in a fairly realistic yet painterly way. For a number of years now my subject matter has been almost exclusively figurative. I remain fascinated and intrigued by the complexities of the human condition, as played out on the stage of everyday life. So much of a person’s story can be revealed in the subtleties of posture- the clutch of a bag, the arch of an eye brow- and the specifics of setting and clothing. In a way I see painting as the telling of a short story, the details of which is left to the interpretation of the viewer.

On my current to-do wish list is a collaborative exhibition with an abstract artist. I love the play between contrasting disciplines and think that the differences sharpen the experience of each.
