SARAH DANES JARRETTSarah Danes Jarrett was raised in Zimbabwe, then came to South Africa to embark on a highly successful 12 year career in the design industry, winning three Clios and two London International Advertising Awards. After becoming a mother, she bought a canvas, brushes and paint in 2000, and sold her first painting to Hout Bay Gallery in 2002. She brought that same eye for detail and drive for perfection to her fine art career and her work is in demand worldwide. This exhibition features her bold, considered, layered portraits that have proved immensely popular, finding their way into collections across the globe. The scale is shameless, breaking intimacy barriers with their sheer size. "I have always worked on people, faces, I love the translucency & reflection of skin, confrontational eyes that narrate a story I can't vocalise. My style is paradoxically chaotic and controlled,brazen and aggressive brushstrokes form soft curves, precisely formed with a sharp white edge. My controlling personality tries to form some order in a world that is constantly in flux. I use colours that bear no similarity to skin and shameless scale to break our intimacy barriers." |
