The Winged Ones

Experience a unique fusion of music and animation at The Winged Ones (Die Gevlerktes), a special ciné-concert featuring pin-screen artist Diek Grobler and pianist Mareli Stolp.
Join us at the Alliance Française de Pretoria on Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 PM for an evening dedicated to celebrating the beauty and mystery of birds. This one-of-a-kind event brings Grobler's stunning pin-screen animation to life, accompanied by a captivating piano performance.

The Performance:
The film, an ode to the world of birds, is created using the extraordinary pin screen. This unique animation device uses thousands of movable pins to create a play of light and shadow. Each scene is meticulously crafted one frame at a time, making for a truly mesmerizing visual experience.
Pianist Mareli Stolp will provide a live soundtrack, performing pieces that complement the ethereal visuals of the film. The repertoire includes:
- L’Alouette Calandrelle by Olivier Messiaen
- La Poule by Jean-Philippe Rameau
- iBis hAdeda rObin's a gUinea (f)Owl by Neo Muyanga
- Upon hearing the first cuckoo in spring by Frederick Delius
This promises to be an unforgettable evening of art, sound, and innovation.
