We have assembled a time-spanning array of artworks that include old and new masters, mid-career artists and young, upcoming talent.
Amongst the display you’ll find a painting by David Koloane, a William Kentridge lapis lazuli print, a rare, large Nelson Makamo silkscreen and a new Blessing Ngobeni linocut.
School teacher Wisani Manyisi is participating at The Art Room for the first time with a large and enigmatic charcoal and acrylic drawing and is joined by art teacher Nirupa Sing with a multi-media drawing inspired by an art residency in India.
Mandy Coppes-Martin has sent a new silk and handmade hemp paper work from England and rounding off the textile contribution is Tilly de Harde’s Precarious Waters II.
Growing young talent has always been part of The Art Room ethos and we are very excited about the crop of new artists included in this exhibition. Given Muronga is a participant in this year’s RMB Talent Unlocked program and Obakeng Masilo won the 2023 Concourt Art Collection Student Competition. Thembisile Masemula and Simphiwe Dlamini are recent graduates from Artist Proof Studio.
Not all new artists are young. We welcome life-long painters Kyrie Levington and Pippa Freer on their gallery debut. Another new painter is Serena Moodley-Anderson, but for this exhibition she’s offering a multi-media linocut made in conjunction with The Arts Company Soweto that debuted at the recent FNB Johannesburg Art Fair.
The promotional image is of Degrees of Seperation, an acrylic painting on canvas by Fleur de Bondt.
