Self-Portraits in Silverpoint

28 May 2021

Pretoria artist Dylan Graham whose main medium is oil on canvas or wood, focused on self-portraiture with silverpoint as a medium for this exhibition at the Association of Arts Pretoria.

Silverpoint is an age-old drawing method that was predominantly used in the Renaissance before the graphite pencil.  Simply put, silverpoint is using a piece of silver as a drawing medium. Drawing surfaces need to be prepared with a specific ground or gesso for the silver to adhere to the surface of the paper.

Graham is currently busy with his Masters in Visual Art at the University of Pretoria with his primary focus on the phenomenon of mark-making. He has had various group and solo exhibitions.  Apart from visual art he is also a practicing musician.
