April Exhibitions6 April 2024 Participating: Various artists Salon A : Art Social - Quality Time
Art Social, a creative concept developed by Linda van Rensburg, is a community based initiative that was successfully implemented in 2023 at Val de Vie estate in Paarl. The goal of this project was to foster community building through art. We are excited to collaborate with Linda on the first Art Social event in Durbanville, which includes a physical exhibition, digital exhibition in aid of Huis Andries Olivier, and art related activities for children on the opening day.
The main exhibition, titled "Quality Time" aims to highlight, celebrate and encourage families to engage in creative activities. The exhibition will showcase the collaborative works of established artists and their family members - in this case parent/child or grandparent/grandchild.
Exhibiting artists include:
Hennie + Andries + Daniël Meyer Anina + Anna-Sophia Deetlefs Elize + Milan Oosthuizen Marguerite Roux + Heidi Burger Kim + Lilah Thebus-Woodman Frieda + Kristina van Zyl Patsy + Simon + Nicholas + Evie + Lisa Groll Paul + Noah Senyol Victor + Petal Harley Carla Botes + Sienna Mulder + Khan Mulder Wiehan + Jewel + Nathan de Jager Art and craft supplies will be made available on the opening day, and families are welcome to come and 'art' together during the event.
Salon B : Abundance
'Abundance' - the latest solo exhibition by Annelie Janse van Rensburg features a new collection of botanical inspired ceramics. As evident in her work, nature is the over-riding source of inspiration in her ceramics. Annelie uses different hand building techniques to showcase the malleable quality of clay as well as the marks the maker leaves. She particularly enjoys the freedom the medium affords her to work quite rough and yet her painted surfaces are delicately detailed.
The vessel or plate is also never completely covered in white slip as she celebrates clay as her canvas and her beautiful delicate designs compliment the humble medium she loves. Salon C: In Between the Here and There
'In between the Here and There' is Barry van der Westhuizen's first solo exhibition at Rust-en-Vrede Gallery. Barry’s work stems from observations and mapping. It is the mapping of these observations that places them within a particular landscape of thought and interpretation. Mapping has always been a large part of his art practice, using symbols, keys and markers to create alternative viewing modes of imaginative geography or that of personal geography to assist with making sense of the world around him.
