Road to Nowhere
Bronze (60 x 74cm)
Edition: 10
Every major city has a mounted sculpture heralding the conquering of something and claiming how great that culture has been.
I spoke to an artist that was commissioned to make one with some African tribal leader to grace some beautiful city in South Africa. That desperately needed an answer! This is it!
As they say: ‘history is entirely dependent on the one writing it.’ I would much prefer to see tribal leaders depicted more honestly, in their own tribal gear.
I must confess a tinge of jealousy at not being commissioned to make a horse. It seemed such an exciting thing to make. I have also wanted to make myself a wooden rocking horse for years.
We sent our sons and brothers to fight in a war that pretty much got us all nowhere. They were a good army, full of highly competent soldiers, fighting a futile cause.
