 Lockdown Works3 July 2020 Participating: Nellien Brewer The lock down came as a huge shock to us. Our restaurant had to close completely, and for the first time in our lives, we were left with literally no income. My daughter had just qualified as a doctor, and had started her internship at a state hospital. On a daily basis she is exposed to a system that pays lip service to safety measures whilst carrying on as usual. I was extremely worried about our staff, and the uncertainty of the whole situation was almost overwhelming. I can't imagine what it must have been like for people stuck in squatter camps or flats.
Painting became my refuge during this time. Focusing on the familiar objects in our home, I learnt to count my blessings and be grateful for the simple things - family, food, pets. I learnt that we are not in charge of our own destiny, but that we need to let go, and trust...
