Arums and Insects3 July 2020 Participating: Nan Spurway Little Paintings of arums and insects
There is a lovely dam not far from where I live and it is very pleasant and picturesque. A clump of arums took my interest and I began taking photos of the various shapes of the flowers. Many of the arums had insects on them and the contrasts caught my eye. As I was busy painting the lilies it came to my mind that hundreds of thousands of these little creatures were being irradiated by all kinds of people, homeowners, farmers and so on to keep down crop losses. There are other ways of controlling the numbers of insects by natural means, birds and other insects that prey on the ‘bad’ insects. If we as homeowners and anyone that loves gardening go to the trouble to find the good insects and build a small ‘insect hotel’ in their gardens, they would be adding to our incredible array of beautiful insects. The embroidered insects have cottons hanging from them denoting their slow demise. VENUE:TRENT GALLERY Address: 198 Long Street, Waterkloof Tel: (012) 460 5497 || Cell: 082 923 2551
