ABANTU: The People

24 January 2020 - 28 February 2020

“Abantu”, meaning “The People” in Xhosa. This group exhibition will be showcasing the works of Contemporary African photographers, and the works engage with the everyday life and people of South Africa, seeking to capture, document, and reflect on their experiences, struggles, and the beauty of living throughout.

Each photographer brings a unique perspective to this theme. These include documenting the youth culture and township life of post-apartheid South Africa, the idea of colourism within the black community, social identity, inspiring an alternative perspective of people of colour by presenting them as works of art, the expression of the gaze, and the vulnerability of the emotions and expectations of children.
