The body of 19 works roughly took me between 230-250 hours over the course of 12 weeks to complete. This obsession is an all consuming and a dedicated process that invades my everyday life.
As I approached this body of work, I was more interested in exploring the compulsive and obsessive nature of my work than the subject-matter. With each additional work, the process became the very content of the works, a tediously time-consuming process to the fragile works. Delicate hand-cutting and the precision of the hand-embroidery are central processes to my mostly paper-based works, both of which challenge the limits of my practice.
I find the dedication required to finish my works conflicting, as I need to deal with the reality of everyday life and its demands while being obsessed with creating art. It is somehow rewarding and at the same time a burden that disrupts my every day routine. Most of these works are inspired by patterns, shapes and the beauty of nature. I’m haunted by the need to create and the need for things to stay the same.
