No Ordinary Women

17 emerging and established female photographers

As a society, we live under a serious delusion if we think that we know what true femininity looks like.

Due to power structures that historically have favored the patriarchy, women have been and still are, misrepresented by the media.

Addressing how we relate to women is thus an essential element in reviewing the mechanisms that blind us to the unacceptable levels of violence against women in South Africa.

Since photography is currently all but replacing language, it is more important than ever that women have a dominant influence over the way they are viewed.

no ordinary women, encourages a broader discussion on where and how art can become a gateway to deeper understanding, a healing from the past and a broader more nuanced interaction of how we engage with one another.
