A Form of Grace

For Sandra Wray, this is the grace of healing. For Joanna Tomkins this is the grace of being. These two artists came together to exhibit their personal forms of expression through clay.

Sandra Wray's work is expressive, both in form and narrative. Her love for story telling is evident in her work. What started as a phycological experiment has resulted into something more expressive, more intriguing. These beautifully formed pieces are each unique. She says "the final piece is a result of many thoughts and processes. I can't let go until I feel it is complete... like I have said all that needed to be said. These individual pieces are each a part of me, a look into my life. These are all me.. in essence, my autobiography".

In her sculptures Joanna Tomkins loves to observe and recreate the dance and contrasts between old and new, incidental and controlled, rawness and elegance, flow and intervention. Her forms - in raku or stoneware ceramic - are intriguing and attaching, feminine and organic, broken yet soft, rough yet beautiful.
